Josh Gates Shares How to Throw Axes at Home

By: Nesa Nourmohammadi

EXPEDITION UNKNOWN host breaks down new hobby on new talk show JOSH GATES TONIGHT and shares how to create your own axe throwing set up at home.

Even though he’s hosting a brand-new talk show every Wednesday, Josh Gates still finds himself with a lot of free time on his hands during the COVID-19 pandemic. Needless to say, he is using that time to learn something new – axe throwing!

Last night on JOSH GATES TONIGHT, Josh showed off his new talent in a little segment he called Expedition New Skill, showing viewers how to throw axes in their own backyards.

Please don’t try this at home… but if you must, here are the steps Josh provided.

Don't say we didn't warn you!

Step 1: Make a Target

You’ll want to have some kind of soft wood to build the stand and target. In Josh’s case, he took six-foot pine boards and cut them into sets of three-foot planks. After binding them perpendicular, stand your target right side up and use spray paint to make circles for the bullseye.

Step 2: Grip the Axe

Grab some chalk (talcum powder and even baby powder will suffice) and rub it on the handle of the axe. Take one hand and grip the bottom of the axe, then bring your second hand over it.

Step 3: Stance and Aim

Standing, bring your dominant foot forward and aim so the back of the axe head is pointing at the bullseye on your target.

Step 4: Eyes Forward, Pray, and Release

This step is self-explanatory.

What will Josh think of next? Watch his new talk show JOSH GATES TONIGHT every Wednesday at 9P ET and catch the latest episode now on Discovery GO.
